With over 400 golf courses that have public access including resort, daily fee, and semi-private facilities, Florida has golf for everyone. Courses such as the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, have long been among the most highly ranked Florida tracks with the World Golf Village in St. Augustine another highly ranked golf resort facility. Orlando tee times can also be easily found at many of the best in Florida including Bay Hill Club and lodge and Grand Cypress.
While those courses listed above offer some of the finest golf available in Florida, there are seemingly an unlimited supply of other fun to play courses throughout the state and many are offering great rates on green fees.
The PGA Village
Florida is for the birds! To enter The PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, turn left on Perfect Drive, lined with pin oaks, palmettos and pines. In danger of extinction, tall sand cranes abound as bald eagles soar, along with magnificent blue herons, white cranes, and egrets. Snowbirds contribute to the state economy, hoping as all golfers for the grand birdies on the course.
Golfers, not in danger of extinction, flock to The PGA Village. The onsite PGA Historical Center is a fantastic golf museum, displaying the Ryder Cup, Donald Ross’ 1900’s workbench and much more. Admission is free but the exhibits and trivia are priceless. A good reminder for all is displayed as Walter Hagen’s testimony of ’67: “You’re only here for a short visit. PGA National
90 holes of golf afford a fairway view from every corner and what can be better than walking a tournament course with a caddy that includes the famous Bear Trap? At time of publication, the winner of the Honda Classic will be awarded and we will have watched with new enthusiasm, remembering on each hole, where our ball lied in comparison with the legendary players. It’s always exciting when the grandstands are going up and the employees regale with stories of past events. The Champions course is a Tom and George Fazio original, re-designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1990 with the Bear Trap paying him tribute. The series of holes 15-17 sandwich a long par 4 between two par 3s all requiring carries over water. Any famous golfer may succumb to its claws.
